What a wonderful Mardi Gras season we had this year full of community, fun and fabulous queer entertainment!
We started with a wonderful Drag Story Time event at Marrickville library where over 70 people were entertained by the fabulous Joyce Maynge.
Our event at Sydney Sea Life Aquarium was a special morning with over 300 people taking part. The amazing team at Reverse Garbage ran an under the water rainbow themed craft activation station, and we had Byron Bay cookies for everyone.
There were a number of smaller events throughout the season as well including:
- The Pride Ride on Bondi Beach thanks to Westfield Bondi Junction, and Peloton
- Rainbow Families activations at East Village
- CAMP Broadway who let us set up a stall in place of Fair Day
- Pacific Square Maroubra's gelato event
The Mardi Gras parade was amazing this year with 240 people marching across our 3 floats. We were led by a funky pink Mardi Gras bus and keeping in the theme of our future - all of our marchers were dressed up as what they want to be when they grow up. A huge thank you to Bern who coordinated this massive event which wasn't without it's hitches! We looked amazing and got some excellent TV coverage. Thank you to everyone that dressed up and show the world what a beautiful community we are at Rainbow Families.
