Family Pride Wrap Up 2023

What a fabulous day! A massive thank you to everyone that came to Family Pride on Sunday May 7th at Marrickville Town Hall. This year around 500 people joined us to celebrate and connect with everyone in our wonderful Rainbow Families Community.

We enjoyed entertainment from Bizzy Izzy and we also had some high profile company with a visit from the lifesize, wax version of Dua Lipa in a dazzling outfit that set the tone for the day. Dua caused plenty of double-takes from attendees who thought she was in fact, the real thing. Maybe next year, you never know ;). Thank you to the team from Madame Tussauds for bringing her along.

We also enjoyed the company of the irrepressible Joyce Mange spreading her fabulousness wherever she went and our families and guests enjoyed some engaging free activities for children, with face painting, ring toss, lantern making, and a fabulous craft station facilitated by our queer community partners.  A big thank you for helping us make Pride Day 2023 such a winner.

We were thrilled to have the ongoing support from some of our political leaders, too. Our community values the time our politicians take out of their busy lives to come and celebrate with us. A special thanks to Minister Jo Haylen, Environment Minister Penny Sharp and Greens MP Dr. Amanda Cohn.

Family Pride would not be possible without the generous ongoing support of the Commonwealth Bank. This is the seventh year CommBank has made a contribution toward the costs of the day, and equally importantly offered an army of volunteers to assist at the event. We would also like to give a heartfelt shout out to our community partners; ACON, Twenty10, Sydney Local Health District, Wear It Purple, Cannon, Reverse Garbage, Gamble Aware, ACON, NSW Police, and the legends at Multiverse.

Family Pride is a day for LGBTIQ parents and their families to get together to celebrate the wonderful people we are in our colourful and diverse family units, and to enjoy and connect with the supportive community we belong to.

Every year Pride Day just gets better and better. We can't wait to do it all again next year, until then have a beautiful remainder of 2023 and keep an eye out for our upcoming events on our website and via our socials.

One of which is our popular ‘Making Rainbow Families Seminar’ on Sunday, June 25, 2023 designed to assist those in the LGBTQ+ community who are considering starting their own family.

The online and in person event in Sydney will explore parenting options and topics like:

  •  Are you ready to become a Parent’ with a family psychologist.
  • Fostering and adoption
  • IVF and home insemination
  • Surrogacy options
  • Trans and gender diverse options
  • Legal considerations for LGBTQ+ parents
  • ‘Tell them from me’ – a panel discussion featuring LGBTQ+ parents and their children.

We are also looking for parents who were inspired to start their own family after attending any of our previous Making Rainbow Families Seminars. We'd love you to share your story with our community to inspire others who may be considering a journey into parenthood in 2023.

Please email [email protected] if you'd like to be involved.
