Youth Council - What an action packed term + Arctic survial skills in the mix

What an exciting start to the term for both YAC and Little Rainbows! Our first Little Rainbows session was a delightful barbecue and picnic by the river in Concord, complete with crafts, games, and a walk along the river as the sun set. It was a perfect way to kick off the term and reconnect.

YAC started the term with a comedy sketch night. Each member received a random prompt and created quick sketches based on it. After several laugh out loud moments, the group decided to keep things low key, enjoying pizza and sharing holiday stories. Proof that flexibility always wins.

A combined YAC and Little Rainbows session brought out everyone’s creativity and teamwork. Teams tackled a variety of challenges, including redesigning everyday household items, creating storyboards based on random objects, and brainstorming survival plans for being stranded in the Arctic.

We wrapped up October with the much anticipated Halloween Disco. It was fantastic to see so many familiar faces in costume! A special shout out to the YAC members who ran the fairy floss, snow cone, and popcorn stalls you made the day extra sweet.

Lars (one of our YAC members) and I had the privilege of attending the Society for Mental Health Research Conference. We presented the Lived Lives Project, a co-design initiative by the Black Dog Institute that we worked on with YAC and Little Rainbows last year. The project explored the wellbeing of young people from LGBTQ+ families, and it was inspiring to share our insights with a wider audience.

We still have lots of session left this term including recycled robot craft, homemade pizzas, slime making and gingerbread houses. If you want anymore information please contact me at [email protected]
