Volunteer Profile Belinda

Belinda McLean

Anyone who has been to the Sydney Rainbow Families Catch Up will tell you it's friendly, relaxed and welcoming. Children play, and parents make friends. Much of what makes it so inclusive and welcoming is Belinda. She is the coordinator; setting up and welcoming families every month.

The group started over five years ago when a group of friends wanted to get together on weekends.  Belinda says, "I would often take my daughter Billie to Sydney Park where I would meet other parents who were part of the LGTBQI community. We started meeting up at the park where the parents and children have both made some valuable relationships."

The group is now a regular Rainbow Families monthly event. Alternating between Petersham Park under those majestic trees and an opportunity to splash in the pool, and Sydney Park, home of good coffee, awesome bike and scooter tracks, and noisy bird life.

New members are always welcome. Being on the weekend it is ideal for working parents, older children, and also prospective parents wanting to meet and learn from those already on the journey.

Belinda says "It's been wonderful to see our community group grow and many friendships continue to develop."  Belinda is now a proud mum of daughters Billie who is five and Frankie who is three. She recommends attending the group "coming along to group events is a great way for parents and our children to make new friends and meet other members of our community."

Our vibrant community organisation happens because of dedicated volunteers.  Thank you Belinda for giving so much of your energy and love to Sydney children and their families.
