That’s why Rainbow Families has created a new guide for early learning educators: Supporting and Celebrating Family Diversity in Early Learning Environments Booklet.

This simple, practical resource is packed with ideas for making classrooms and centres more inclusive of all families—including those with two mums, two dads, single parents, or trans and gender-diverse caregivers.

It includes:

• Easy-to-implement classroom tips

• Inclusive story and song suggestions

• Language and play-based strategies

• A diverse book list, music, and child-friendly discussion questions

The strategies in this guide were developed by Marly Greenwood, a passionate early childhood educator and inclusion advocate. She has successfully delivered inclusivity and diversity training sessions across early learning centres in NSW for Rainbow Families over 2024/25. Marly seeded this resource as a way to offer simple, practical changes that fit seamlessly into existing early learning environments.

The content aligns with the National Quality Standards, the Early Years Learning Framework V2, and the ECA Code of Ethics, making it easy for educators to meet their requirements while creating safer, more inclusive spaces for every family :) Win - Win!
