Youth Advisory Council Update

Our Youth Advisory Council (YAC) has had an exciting start to the year thanks to our friends at Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre. The YAC met monthly and the wonderful Stephen Lunny ran cooking workshops while Vanessa Gonzalez facilitated group discussions in a safe inclusive space where the YAC members were able to build community and learn from other people growing up in diverse families.

The YAC also had the opportunity to participate in YHunger Program - a healthy eating a physical activity capacity building program for young people. Check out this video of our wonderful YAC talking about the program.
Earlier in the year we received a grant from Aurora Group for the YAC to create a resource for young people, by young people in the Rainbow Families Community. We are excited to have made this the lock down project for the YAC. The team from the Young and Resilient Research Centre at Western Sydney Uni are working with the YAC to develop this groundbreaking resource for our community. Part of this will include community consultation so keep an eye out for your chance to get involved.
Looking forward to post lock down life we will be scaling up the YAC and running fortnightly sessions at Twenty10 with a paid facilitator for the group. This will mean that more young people will have the opportunity to get involved in the YAC.

The YAC is a group of young people from the Rainbow Families Community. They come from families with LGBTQ+ parents including lesbian mums, gay dads, trans or gender diverse parents and queer parents.
