About Rainbow Families

Rainbow Families aims to build a community which fosters resiliency by connecting, supporting and empowering LGBTQ+ families. We provide support and resources to members of the LGBTQ+ community so that they and their families can live their best and most colourful lives. We host events that connect LGBTQ+ families, particularly those that are feeling isolated because of social pressures, financial difficulty or where they live. We advocate on behalf of our community and are a strong and consistent voice for LGBTQ+ families to address discrimination, raise awareness and promote acceptance.

 

About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for someone passionate about supporting LGBTQ+ parents and their families. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for planning and delivering a variety of projects for Rainbow Families in Queensland, through supporting staff and volunteers with existing and new projects.

We are looking for someone who is self motivated and solution focused, with a background working on a variety of projects at one time. Ideally you have an understanding of the for-purpose sector and/or working or volunteering within the sector, supporting LGBTQ+ people and/or families.
 

Location: We are flexible, but the successful candidate must live in Queensland. Regular travel may be required. This is a work from home position with requirements to attend meetings and events on an ad hoc basis. Depending on the location of the successful applicant access to an office space may be offered.

Employment type: Part-time – 12-month fixed-term contract 0.4 FTE (15 hours per week) - days and hours of work is flexible

Some weekend work may be required to attend events and other activities

Classification & remuneration: The position is under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award 2010 at Level 4, paypoint 4 - $46.35 per hour

What we are looking for 

Experience and skills in:

  • Event planning and coordination 
    • Liaising with community, vendors, speakers, suppliers and all relevant internal and external stakeholders
    • Experience and skills in producing post-event reports, evaluation and analysis to strive for continuous improvement
  • Volunteer recruitment and management skills 
  • Experience in applying  for appropriate funding opportunities 
  • Excellent communication skills and ideally experience working with rainbow families
  • Experience and skills in project delivery
  • Skills, experience and the ability to maintain and establish connections with like-minded social and community groups across Queensland to support peer parent engagement and promote their events across urban and regional communities
  • Skills and experience in marketing and communication, particularly event promotion and developing project promotional material 
  • Understanding of the needs and challenges of For Purpose Organisations
  • Understanding of the needs of LGBTQ+ parents and their children
  • Ability to organise self and to work collaboratively when required and independently
  • Valid National Criminal Record Check and Current Queensland Blue Card
  • Valid driver licence
  • Intermediate understanding of Microsoft Office, CRMs
