We have some exiting news. We are close to receiving DGR status which means that our donations will be tax deductible. This means that we will be able to grow Rainbow Families to better support our growing community. We have a special general meeting on October 29th to make a small change to our constitution as the final step in this process.
The Meeting’s purpose is to consider and vote on a motion to amend the Constitution of Rainbow Families Incorporated, to comply with the Australian Tax Office (ATO) Requirements for Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. Rainbow Families has recently been approved as a charity by the Australian Charities and Not-for-profit Commission (ACNC) and has been awarded Public Benevolent Institution (PBI) status. This means that the ATO can then award us DGR which means all donations over $2 made to Rainbow Families are tax deductible.
If three-quarters of the votes cast at the meeting support the motion, then it will pass.
The Motion to be put to the SGM is as follows:
That an additional clause is added to our constitution to comply with ATO requirements for charities with DGR:
If the organisation is wound up or its endorsement as a deductible gift recipient is revoked (whichever occurs first), any surplus of the following assets shall be transferred to another organisation with similar objects, which is charitable at law, to which income tax deductible gifts can be made:
- Gifts of money or property for the principal purpose of the organisation
- contributions made in relation to an eligible fundraising event held for the principal purpose of the organisation
- money received by the organisation because of such gifts and contributions.
