We are hearing about an emerging situation with the new assisted reproductive technology legislation in Queensland. The law retrospectively applies to donor gametes, which means that the new rules apply even if the clinic/families weren't having to meet particular requirements for donors at the time.
When the Bill was introduced, Rainbow Families warned that rigid provisions might lead to families being told they can no longer use their embryos or access their allocated donor gametes. We raised concerns that this may lead to destruction of embryos or families going interstate for treatment.
If you are directly affected by this situation, or if you've received a letter about this from your fertility provider we would like to hear from you. We'd like to know the extent of the issue so that we can use this information to advocate for change. The experiences collected in this survey may be used in a letter or report during this advocacy work.
We’ve briefed the LGBTI Legal Service and they may be able to assist. You can contact them here - https://lgbtilegalservice.org.au/
