Peer support for LGBTQ+ parents

With our playgroups and events on hold, Rainbow Families is exploring a peer support program for parents in our community. We are working with a group of Social Work students from ACU -

Hello Rainbow Families Community, we are Remy, Chloe, Brooke, Emily and Tascha.

Firstly, let us tell you a little bit about ourselves….we are a group of student  social workers from the Australian Catholic University (ACU) and we love chocolate, animals and music. We understand starting a family or expecting a child is an anxious time yet alone in a global pandemic. Whilst we all wish things could go back to normal, we think it is important to create a sense of community and support in a COVID safe way as well as being fun.

We are excited to be working with Rainbow Families to create a peer support model for new and expecting parents and families. But we would love for this new program to be created for you by you.

To get started, we are hoping to scope the experiences, fears, challenges and joys of becoming a new parent. We are calling all existing, new and expecting parents to join us for a community consultation that will guide the direction of this new program that aims to support new parents thrive.

The Focus Group will be on Wednesday 16th September at 1pm.
