NSW Donor Sperm Restrictions Are Destroying Family Dreams

There's an urgent issue affecting access to donor sperm in NSW, and sharing your story can make a real difference.

Under NSW law, clinics can't treat someone if a donor's sperm is used by more than five families. Clinics used to apply this limit within NSW only. Late last year, NSW Health changed its position, ruling that the five-family limit applies worldwide.

This sudden shift has created severe consequences:

  • Availability has plunged Clinics have far fewer donors available.
  • Costs have skyrocketed Sperm alone can cost up to $40,000 before clinical fees.
  • People must travel interstate Many are forced to leave NSW for treatment.
  • Informal donation is rising More people are turning to online donors without health or genetic screening, family limits, or official record-keeping.

The NSW Government plans to wait years for a federal review before fixing this. We need to act now.

Could you take a few minutes to share how this change affects you or someone you care about?
