Rainbow Families is excited to announce our new parents group will be back in 2020.
Facilitated by Sydney Local Health District the group will run like a traditional new parents group for the first four weeks with education and information for new parents. The group will then continue to meet for the rest of the term as a supported baby group for queer parents.
Rachael Reid, Child and Family Health Nurse talks about why she is so excited about the group:
“No family parents in isolation and the greater social and political context impacts how safe and supported families feel. We are hoping to provide families with an inclusive group to support them in their early parenting journey.”
“All families are welcome to our services and many attend the mainstream new parent groups, as we welcome more queer families into the parenting community it has become clear that having a specific group may provide an assured inclusive space to access child and family groups and services.”
“We hope that the group will provide not only health information but also build relationships between families to reduce the isolation often felt by new parents.”
