Meet our new Youth Group leaders - Sascha and John!

In 2026 our Sydney Youth Group has two new facilitators and we’d love you to meet them. Our Youth Group runs in Sydney’s Inner West on Wednesday evenings and is a welcoming space for young people aged 9-16 from the Rainbow Families Community.

About John.

I recently completed my Honours in Psychology and have previously worked in mental health support roles, including with Lifeline. I’ve spent a lot of time supporting young people and families through different experiences, and I really value creating spaces where people feel safe and understood.

As a gay man, I deeply value the importance of representation and community, and I’m especially passionate about community spaces that help young people and their families feel confident in who they are and where they come from.

What I’m Looking Forward To

I’m really looking forward to helping facilitate a youth group that feels welcoming, relaxed and fun - somewhere kids can connect, build friendships and just be themselves.

Why Spaces Like This Matter

Having spaces just for young people in rainbow families is so important. It helps build a sense of belonging and reinforces that their families are something to be proud of.

Anything Else

I’m genuinely excited to be part of this community and can’t wait to meet everyone.

About Sascha.

I have been working with young people for nearly four years now as a consent and relationships workshop facilitator where I help empower young people with crucial health and social information and skills for their own wellbeing and respectful relationships. Working in one-off workshops is super rewarding, but I wanted to find a space that provides ongoing support to young people, their wellbeing, and social development. Having just finished my Honours in Psychology and starting a Cert IV in Mental Health this year, I’m also expanding my skills in holistic, trauma-informed mental health care. In my spare time, I love to do ceramics, eating good food with my friends, and snuggle with my dog!

What I’m Looking Forward To

Providing a safe and supportive space for young people to foster their friendships and engage in fun and creative activities. I’m also looking forward to seeking what the young people come up with in all the inventive challenges and activities we have planned.

Why Spaces Like This Matter

Rainbow Families helps create a community that ensures everyone knows and feels that they belong and are celebrated. Our youth group allows young people to connect with others with shared experiences and have fun being themselves!

Anything Else

This year is going to be tons of fun! The young people have already brought lots of passion, energy, and so many creative ideas. I can’t wait to see what else this year brings.
