Have you ever thought about becoming a parent?
If you dream of making a family, there are more options than ever before available to members of the LGBTQ+ community. But finding your way through the complex array of information - and misinformation - out there can be a challenge.
We're here to guide your through your options
Since 2016, Making Rainbow Families has provided clarity and confidence to hundreds of LGBTQ+ community members by providing a jam-packed program of quality education, inspiration and community connection.
You will hear from industry experts and community leaders as they provide how-to sessions and answer your questions on the many different ways to make a family. At the same time, you will also get to meet your peers - other pending parents including lesbian mums, gay dads, trans/gender diverse and all types of LGBTQ+ individuals and couples. So you can build friendships with other community members that may last throughout your family’s lifetime.
Our annual seminar includes educational sessions from leading experts on topics including:
- “Are you ready to become a Parent” from a family psychologist
- Fostering and adoption
- Assisted reproductive technology including IVF and sperm donors
- Surrogacy
- Trans and gender diverse options
- Legal considerations for LGBTQ+ parents
To finish the program we will hear from a panel of LGBTQ+ parents and their children, who will share their experiences of being a family. Hear the heart-warming stories of often long-awaited parenthood, the challenges our families face and, above all, the love that makes us Rainbow Families.
For community members not able to attend in person, the event will also be live-streamed meaning we can again welcome attendees from all around Australia. Get all the information you need to take steps forward on your parenting journey with confidence in one place.
'This course presented a great mix of practical information and lived experience - it encompassed every part of the process/steps couples need to go through when thinking about when planning a family. Hearing from the kids at the end of the course was absolute joy - and an inspiring way to close. Well done - well worth the experience." Cath, attendee from 2023
