Kiama October Weekend Away was a winner!

The Kiama October Weekend Away was a raging success with over 60 families/100+ people travelling to the gorgeous south coast location - Big 4 Easts Beach, Kiama, to connect with other Rainbow Families from our community. There were also lots of new families and babies in attendence, which was wonderful to see!

The event kicked off on Thursday for the early birds with a courtesy bus taking eveyone to Kiama Leagues for Schnitzel night. Friday saw more families arrive and a Welcome BBQ was hosted in the main BBQ area near the beach cabins. The BBQ banger sanga was a crowd favourite and all hands were on deck with fairly distributed 'sausage turning duty'.

That night from 7pm the dance party kicked off and some schmiko dance moves were executed by young and older kids while parents mingled and got to catch up.

Saturday was free time and the weather was fantastic and plenty of people enjoyed the beach. Turns out the whales heard Rainbow Families were coming to visit and made a surprise appearance, giving some lucky folks a wave before continuing up the coast.

Saturday afternoon was reserved for a game of Edor. Edor is a chasing-tagging team game which originates in the Aurukun Aboriginal community in North Queensland. The game is also known as Idor, Ida or the running game.

To play the game, create two teams and set up an area with goal lines at each end. The game can change direction many times in a game. Edor was a big hit with our families.

To top off a great day, kids and adults had a night time pool swim.

Sunday morning our families came together for the Hunters and Gatherers Beach Coffee Catch Up. Kids collected shells, and played games on the beach and adults had a coffee and a chat and mingle.

We were thrilled to hear it was such a great weekend+ (best yet!) for the families who attended and Rainbow Families would like to give a massive thank you to board member, Bern Foley, for all her hard work and excellent organising and wrangling skills!

It wouldn't be what it was without you Bern!!

Next camping weekend in March, 2024.

If you misssed this one, the next camping weekend away will be at Easts Beach Holiday Park in Kiama.

LGBTQ+ Families from across NSW will come together for a weekend of camping - or if you prefer you can stay in one of the beautiful cabins on site.

Starting on Friday night with a welcome dinner, the weekend will be full of activities and opportunities for you and your family to meet new friends, and catch up with campers you haven't seen since last year.

Bookings can be made directly with the holiday park. Make sure you let them know you are with Rainbow Families, so we can all be in the same area of the camping ground - Rainbow Avenue?
