Halloween Disco

Earlier this month we celebrated Halloween with our annual Halloween Disco. This much anticipated annual event has been on hold since 2019 so for many families it was their first Rainbow Families Halloween Disco.

We had Kate Monroe on the decks, getting everyone up dancing to some fabulous tunes. Cassandra The Queen did some amazing drag shows including every child’s favourite Elsa special – Frozen. The costumes were fantastic as usual - all of the kids love seeing the grown ups dressing up and getting in on the action. And for kids who needed a little extra on their outfit our wonderful face painters were on hand to complete the look.

We had the fantastic team from Wildlife Sydney with a cart of exciting creatures and fossils for families to explore. And Professor Bubbles was the star of the show for many families on the grass who spent the afternoon marvelling at his extraordinary bubble creations.

Our Youth Council were running the snack bar for the day. All YAC members can now fall back on a career of slushie and fairy floss making. Money raised at the YAC snack bar is going to be used for a program of events over the school holidays for members of our Youth Council. The YAC also launched their amazing new resource – Little Rainbows. A huge shout out to Alex who jumped up on stage a gave a wonderful speech introducing the community to this very special resource.

Our Halloween Disco is all about community, and brining LGBTQ+ parents from across Sydney together for a relaxed afternoon in the sun. The grass area was the perfect place to set up a picnic and enjoy being part of the wonderful Rainbow Families Community.

Thank you to Macquarie Bank who made a generous contribution to the costs of the event allowing us to make this event free for families to attend and giving us the opportunity to bring in some exciting performers and try out a new venue.
