Camp more info

We will be meeting on Friday night at 6pm for a welcome dinner to get to know everyone.

The accommodation is rustic school camp style with a mixture of bunk rooms and some limited smaller rooms for families. Pillows are provided but you will need to bring your own sleeping bags, or sheets and doonas. All meals are provided by the venue and of course dietary requirements will be taken care of.

This camp is all about community, making friend’s and building children’s resilience. The program in based on the Beyond Blue Toolkit for Parents and will have the following goals; building supportive relationships, build autonomy and responsibility, managing our emotions, and create opportunities for personal challenges.

There will be a full planned program for children during the camp. Children will have choice of outdoor group challenges and activities facilitated by a Department of Sport and Recreation Leader, or creative workshops facilitated by Primary School  teacher and Rainbow Families volunteer, Sarah-Louise  Hopkins.  There will be a resilience workshop for parents and children facilitated by Social Worker and Rainbow Families volunteer Vanessa Gonzalez.  Parents will mostly have free to socialise or explore the beautiful natural surrounds.  Prior to the camp you and your child will be asked to set goals to your child.

The Rainbow Families Youth Advisory Council formed in May 2018 and provides an opportunity for our young people to develop leadership skills and advocate on issues they care about. During this camp a Youth Leader from the Council will be allocated to your family. Their job will be to warmly welcome your children and support your children’s participation during the camp. They will be a great source of all things camp information, and keeping up a friendly vibe.    We know that many children and adults with not know each other. We have designed activities to support meeting and making new friends. Come with the spirit of sharing and getting to know your children better, and maybe making some friends yourself.

Tickets will be available in September.
