Parenting Course

Rainbow Families is presenting a workshop series for LGBTIQA+ parents and carers who want to brush up on their parenting skills find new ways of dealing with their children’s behaviour and learn the Bringing Up Great Kids approach to dealing with behavioural challenges. It is also a chance to meet other LGBTIQA+ parents, enjoy learning new skills and gain information about further support.

Bringing up Great Kids is an evidence based program for parents with children aged 0 - 12. The program promotes and supports respectful, caring and nurturing relationships between parents and their children, assisting parents to become more reflective and mindful in their parenting approach.

Key outcomes

  • Clarify your problems.
  • Gain new perspectives.
  • Work through change.

Seminars and workshops offer a safe, supportive environment where you can share your thoughts and ideas, and learn from others with similar experiences. You will experience a positive, practical approach that builds on strengths within yourself and in your relationships.

The Bringing Up Great Kids program can help parents with the following:
• Parenting Styles
• Important messages: What do we want to convey to our children and how to best do this?
• Brain development in children and its influence on thoughts, feelings and behaviour
• Discovering how to overcome some of the obstacles of raising children
• Exploring ways for parents to take care of themselves and how to find support when needed

Bringing Up Great Kids is not specifically designed for LGBTIQA+ parents and carers. Athina Shelston and Kay Churchill from Sydeny Local Health District will be presenting the course. Athina and Kay are both supporters of Rainbow Families and sensitive to the needs of our families. The learning environment will be a safe space for LGBTIQA+ parents and carers to share their experience and learn new skills.

Rainbow Families is thrilled to partner with Sydney Local Health District to bring this important education series to the LGBTIQA+ community.

The five week course builds on skills from week to week, so attendance each week is preferred. There are only 20 spaces available, so if you are interested please make sure you can attend all five sessions. Sessions are from 6-8pm.
