Bounce - Resilience Camp

Bounce is a weekend resilience camp for Rainbow Families held in Narrabeen. This year was our biggest camp with over 100 people attending from Friday night to Sunday afternoon. An action packed agenda for the weekend saw families move between activities led by Sport And Rec staff - encouraging families to learn new skills, push their physical capabilities and build mental resilience through new experiences. A highlight this year was having the whole group kayak on the lake on Saturday afternoon.

This was coupled with resilience workshops for children and parents where families explored some of the challenges of being a rainbow family, and learnt new strategies to build resilience. For many of the kids, their favourite part of the weekend was the after dinner games where kids verse parents -

"The kids LOVED the adult Vs Kids games at night and they were a great laugh despite me being a cripple the next day haha."

Just under half of the families came from outside of Sydney metro area. Some flying down from Lismore, and others driving over six hours to come to camp. Many of these regional families don't know other diverse families in their local community. For some children this was the first time meeting another family that looks like theirs.

Bounce is for many families their annual opportunity to connect with the Rainbow Families Community.

Thank you to South Pacific Private and Commonwealth Bank for sponsoring this event. This funding allowed us to offer subsidised tickets to families that would not otherwise be able to afford to go to camp.
