Rainbow Families has welcomed a new co-chair following the resignation of Scott Brunelle. Brunelle remains an active member of the Rainbow Families committee. Current committee member Ashley Scott has been appointed the new co-chair, alongside existing chair Justine Maguire-Scarvelli.

Speaking of his decision to resign as co-chair Brunelle said: “We are all challenged as parents to find the ideal balance between our family, career and community commitments. In order to keep this balance as I faced increasing work commitments, it became apparent that I needed to step aside as co-chair.”

Brunelle said whilst he was sad to step down from the position he looked forward to seeing the Rainbow Families community grown under the auspices of Scott and Maguire-Scarvelli.

“While I am sad to step down, I am happy that Ashley Scott has stepped up and that I will still be able to serve the NSW LGBTIQ community as a Rainbow Families committee member. I want to personally thank Justine Maquire-Scarvelli and the Rainbow Families committee for their hard work and dedication over the past year.  While having such a large committee might present some community associations with challenges in regard to direction and consensus, for Rainbow Families it has been a huge benefit from not only the diverse perspectives and skill sets, but from the shared vision of how an LGBTIQ family organisation can serve the community.

Brunelle also thanked the rainbow family community for embracing the organisation.

“I want to thank the community of mums and dads for being so supportive of the organisation as it has grown from being a social group to Rainbow Families Incorporated. This shift means that the NSW LGBTIQ community can have confidence that they will be supported by a sustainable, transparent and financially sound community association.”

Incoming co-chair Scott said he is excited for the opportunity to work further with the rainbow families committee and community.

“I am thrilled to be the new co-chair of Rainbow Families. It is an honour to work along side Justine and everyone on the committee. I would like to thank Scott, one of the founding co-chairs of Rainbow Families for all his hard work, dedication and vision. I am looking forward to continuing to work with the Rainbow Families Committee members to support, connect and empower our community.”

Rainbow Families would also like to say a big welcome to our newest committee member Rica Seeta who joins Rainbow Families as our new treasurer. Rainbow Families is ecstatic to have Rita’s numerical expertise!
