A seminar series for LGBTIQ parents and carers of children aged 3-10 who want to brush up on their parenting skills, find new ways of dealing with their children's behaviour and learn the PPP approach to dealing with behavioural challenges. It is also a chance to meet other same sex and gender diverse parents, enjoy learning new skills and gain information about further support.
Triple P is a parenting program, but it doesn’t tell you how to be a parent. It’s more like a toolbox of ideas. You choose the strategies you need. You choose the way you want to use them. It’s all about making Triple P work for you.
Triple P helps you:
- Raise happy, confident kids
- Manage misbehaviour so everyone in the family enjoys life more
- Set rules and routines that everyone respects and follows
- Encourage behaviour you like
- Take care of yourself as a parent
- Feel confident you’re doing the right thing
PPP is not specifically designed for LGBTIQ parents and carers. Athina Shelston from Sydney Local Area Health will be presenting the course. Athina is a supporter of Rainbow Families and sensitive to the needs of our families. The learning environment will be a safe space for LGBTIQ parents and carers to share their experience, and learn new skills.
Rainbow Families is thrilled to partner with Sydney Local Health District to bring this important education series to the LGBTIQ community.
Family psychologist and Rainbow Families volunteer Jacqueline Mcdiarmid has developed a workshop to be run on the fourth week specifically for LGBTIQ parents. This will cover topics relevant to our community, and will be a great opportunity to learn from other LGBTIQ parents.
The four week course builds on skills from week to week, so attendance each week is preferred. There are only 14 spaces available, so if you are interested please make sure you can attend all four sessions.
