TRIPLE P SEMINAR
The Selected (Seminars) Triple P Course teaches parents information seminars for parents with children up to 12 years. Selected Triple P is suitable as a universal prevention strategy where it is offered to parents entering an intervention or school age service.
Selected interventions are typically delivered through primary care services including maternal and child health services, general practitioners and family doctors, day care centres, kindergartens, and schools. These services are well positioned to provide brief information presentations to groups of parents.
The Triple P Selected Seminar Series consists of three 60-minute seminars (plus 30-minutes for questions) covering the following topics:
1. The power of positive parenting.
2. Raising confident, competent children.
3. Raising resilient children.
The seminar series may also assist parents with specific concerns about their child’s behaviour by building awareness of other Triple P services. This level of intervention is designed for the management of discrete child problem behaviours that are not complicated by other major behaviour management difficulties or family dysfunction.
Whether you just need reassurance that you are on the right track or maybe you are noticing a few problem behaviours that are becoming difficult to manage – Triple P seminars are a short, yet valuable introduction to positive parenting strategies.
Three 90 minute seminars help you feel more confident and ready to deal with the common child behavioural and emotional issues.
The seminars are interactive and allow plenty of time for you to ask questions about what you are experiencing and how you are feeling. Your accredited Triple P leader will be happy to discuss your family’s individual concerns and help and support you to work out positive parenting solutions for your family.
Seminars are a great way to cover key areas and get help with problems, including:
why children tend to behave in certain ways
what methods children respond to best
dealing with behaviours such as aggression and disobedience
recognising and managing less obvious situations such as sadness, anxiety, difficulty with separation and problems mixing with other children.
The Triple P seminar will be followed by a one off 90 minute seminar that will include topics specific to LGTBIQ parenting which may include (This will be facilitated by Justine Harris, Clinical Psychologist and Cheryl Majka, Clinical Social Worker):
providing role models for children
addressing estrangement from or conflict with family or friends
balancing family pride and outness with safety, through adaptability to different settings
using problem solving
helping children cope with bullying
strategies to deal with heteronormativity in schools, sports clubs etc
